Welcome to Biji-biji, where we believe in the power of creative projects to make a positive social impact and inspire sustainable living. As passionate individuals, we strive to plant the seeds of sustainability across Malaysia, envisioning a greener future where these seeds grow into mighty trees, scattering their own seeds of change.
But who exactly are we? Biji-biji is a diverse collective of individuals from various backgrounds and cultures, united by a common purpose: to create a greener Malaysia. Our Ethical Fashion team, in particular, is on a mission to raise awareness about the global waste problem. Through the production and sale of upcycled kimono, seatbelt, banner, and felt bags, we challenge everyone to rethink their perception of waste and contribute to a circular economy.
What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to the World Fair Trade Principles. We ensure fair payment and provide comfortable and safe working conditions for every member of our team, from managers and designers to talented tailors and all others involved.
Now, let's dive into the challenges we face on this journey of impact creation:
Priorities and Logistics: We recognize the unique circumstances faced by single mothers, who often need to work from home to take care of their children. Overcoming this challenge involves organizing the distribution of materials and collecting finished products from workers spread across multiple locations.
Tools and Training: To empower these mothers, we provide sewing machines that enable them to work from home. However, they also require training in specific stitches and patterns to create our unique bags, even with the necessary tools and materials at their disposal.
Quality Control: Ensuring consistent product quality becomes increasingly complex when our talented team members are working from various locations. We strive to maintain our high standards, but it's a challenge we're eager to overcome.
Despite these obstacles, our determination to support marginalized communities, such as single mothers and the disabled, remains strong. By involving them in our stories and recognizing them as the creators of Biji-biji products, we raise awareness about their social circumstances and work towards improving their standard of living.
However, we face an even bigger challenge: funding these impactful projects. Currently, we rely on corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives sponsored by larger companies to carry out our endeavors. The question remains: How can we secure these projects and ensure continuous support for the marginalized? We cannot commit to hiring them for an entire year without ongoing projects. Therefore, our ability to uplift the lives of those in need hinges on these CSR opportunities.
But fear not, dear readers, because you have a crucial role to play in this journey too!
At Biji-biji, our mission extends beyond using upcycled materials. We prioritize our social mission, whether it's caring for our migrant workers or extending kindness to the marginalized. And here's where you come in—yes, YOU! We invite you to contribute in various ways:
